giveaway! a creature of rare beauty!

hello! I am Lesley and I like to draw. cut stuff out and make things move.....I thought that I should start a blog for 2011.....so to get a headstart I decided that a special giveaway might be just the ticket.....
If you are feeling a bit chilly this winter how would you like to win your very own firebird? whilst the actual firebird is, I'm afraid, too rare and delicate to send by post I have up for grabs a very special concertina print! The concertina is printed over two sides and is over one and a half metres long - perfect for that empty shelf.
"But Lesley how do I get my little hands on this creature of rare wonder and beauty?" I can hear literally no-one asking!
Well.......all you need to do is tell the firebird what you would do with a golden apple (just leave your answer as a comment below)
After the new year has begun the firebird will dive his beak into the comments and randomly pull one out - the golden comment - the winner!
And if you just can't wait that long you can get your mitts on some ace firebird prints from soma here

  2. That concertina print is so beautiful. I have been admiring the images via Flickr for some time now and would love one day to see them in my space. Anyway if I had a golden apple I'd give it to my niece so she could feed it to her golden pheasant.

  3. Hi Lesley! Great!
Well, actually I love odd numbers but it seems I am a second number, ah that doesn't matter. Silly me.

So...if I had a Golden Apple I would go at first to Moscow city, to the Red Square and would show and hold for some time this wonderful Golden Apple to everyone who want and ask. And tell to everyone how wonderful it was...to get this amazing golden apple from one and the only amazing Firebird?

p.s. Ah, then I would go to...Scotland with this gift of course ;)

  4. Stunning work! I would have to cut it open to see if it was golden all the way through, then I'd be annoyed at myself for ruining it's beauty!

  5. I'd better not say :D - Beautiful work though young lady, you're definitely one of the very best x

  6. If I had a golden apple, I would probably carry it gently outside, then stand with it in my arms outstretched for a magical golden owl to come and perch upon!

    Love your stuff!

  7. I would build a glass cabinet to contemplate it for hours!
    Lovely work <3

  8. Really lovely work! :)

I would plant the seed of the golden apple on new year, so a golden apple tree will grow from it and it would make a nice little home for the firebird's family :D

Look forward to seeing more from you. All the best.

    Regards,
    Charles

  9. I would put it on a shelf and stare at it by candle-light.
    I love the Firebird! :o)

  10. Well, since most golden apples are stolen from kings, I would bury it under my house until the King's passing. Then, when the gold market was up and the heat was off, I'd sell it, because life is not a fairy tale. In time, the guilt might start to play on me though, so I would probably buy a couple acres of land with the money, and with government grants, build a children's hospital on it. If I had any money left over I would buy a shipping container full of Snickers candy bars, because I like those. The kids would too, I think.

Seriously though, I really like your art and design, very unique and refreshing. It's a breath of fresh air. -Ted

  11. My little boy loves apples and shiny things so I would give him the golden apple. He's enjoy seeing his reflection in it....

  12. I'd feed my golden apple to my golden pony.

  13. aah the firebird is just stunning!

i would cut it up and share it with my favourite people :)

  14. I would smelt it down and make lots of little golden apples that I would give to my family and friends, to do with whatever they wished...spread the wealth you see!

  15. I would hang it outside in the garden to attract magpies who would scare off all the local cats who like to poo all over my veg patch. Then I'd melt it down to make lots of tiny gold charms for each of the magpies to take home and use as they please. They'd probably just put them with the rest of their treasure troves, because magpies are hoarders.

  16. I would put it under my pillow each night to dream adventures of feathered beauties in golden lands. And when my heart was full to the brim I would keep it safe in my pocket and bestow it upon the first extra special nice person I found. The rare random act of kindness person.

  17. I'm looking forward to following your blog. If I had a golden apple I'd have to out a label on it to remind my boyfriend it's not a toffee apple. He's quite a fan of toffee apples and I wouldn't want him to end up toothless trying to bite in to a golden apple.

  18. Ahh my favourite!

Well I'm pretty hungry, so right now I think I would definitely have to try and make a pie out of it. I'm pretty terrible at cooking though so no doubt I'd burn it. Perhaps magical golden apples don't burn though, so everyone could still eat it \o/

And I'd have to plant the seeds. We could re-create all sorts of myths with a good supply of golden apples.

  19. What a beautiful firebird— I'm sure he would feel right at home here with me! I would give him hot chocolate and banana cake every day!
    :-))
As for the apple: Golden Apple Crumble! Luckily I have a recipe....

  20. Well, dear firebird, as this golden apple can't be but a magic one (because you are so stunning yourself), I'd carry it in my left coat pocket, warm my hands on it and ask it, very politely, to conjure up a little bubble of warmth whenever someone needs a bit of comfort..

    (Looking forward to your blog!)

  21. Hi lesley, amazing work!
if i had a golden apple, i would give it to you as a present for being such an amazing artist!

  22. If I had a golden apple, I'd use my magic powers to shrink it down, then duplicate it, and wear the pair as earrings.

  23. the print looks gorgeous :) i'd share it between my family and friends and plant the seeds so we could have some more next year!

  24. Dear Firebird,

Thank you for giving me your golden apple, its very shiny *ooooh* *aaah*

As promised, I will be leaving the apple out for Rudolph this year, as he's got a bit of a cold and his nose isn't glowing as red as usual. I'm hoping its magic will cheer him up and he'll make a full recovery in time to deliver all those presents! After all, Santa couldn't do it without him - have you FELT how heavy that present sack is? >.<

Wishing you a glowing, heartwarming xmas,

    Tigz x

  25. 'I throw the apple at you, and if you are willing to love me, take it and share your girlhood with me; but if your thoughts are what I pray they are not, even then take it, and consider how short-lived is beauty.' Plato, Epigram VII.

If I were to have the Golden Apple I would enshrine it and then when I had met the one I love, I would toss it at them.

  26. oh give me a golden apple and i will cut it up, sow the seeds, sprinkle them with whatever they desire and wait for them to grow soonishly into a garden of golden-leaved trees which are easy to climb and so nice to sit in and watch the world pass by....

  27. My husband treaded the boards as Koschei in a play directed by his mum (who was also his teacher) at his primary school aged nine. So I would give it to him as a memento. He could keep it with the video of his performance which I have never been allowed to watch. It apparently features him wearing his sister's tights and looking crabbit because he was Koschei and not Prince Ivan.

  28. Make a stand and use it as my centre piece in my dining room with glass cover :D fab x

  29. Hm what would one do with a golden apple. You can't eat it, and wearing it as a neglace or earing doesn't seem to work either. I wouldn't want to show it of either, as people might get jealous and this leads to other not so pleasant actions people do. I guess I would have to burry it and in 100 of years, when I am all forgotten and the apple too, someone will have moved here and might want to plant a tree or even build a house, he will find this apple and have the same troubeling question what to do with it. Eat it...wear it...sell it...make it into something else....or burry it for the next lucky one to choose and see whether he needs it to make his dreams possible.

  30. OMG, This is beautiful!! How could I have missed this before? The question is, what happens when you eat it? Do you get powers? Maybe the powers would be bad? I think maybe Firebird shouldn't eat the apple. Maybe throw it away so no one else can eat it.

  31. Umm, hi mister...uh...Firebird, sir. I know that you're after my answer to what I'd do with a golden apple but in all honesty I'm more impressed with the fact I'm talking to an actual firebird. Even a glorious golden apple seems to be a little mundane compared to that!

  32. the firebird (before he migrated to the firey place at the end of the world for the rest of the winter) put on his blindfold and waded through the comments......and the grand winner is....

    Ted Blackman

but the firebird really liked all the answers (he has persuaded lesley to write a little story about what he does with all the golden apples he steals...he wants people to know he is not JUST a thief!) and if anyone would like a firebird postcard sent to them just email your address to:

happy christmas...may you recieve a golden satsuma in the toe of your stocking!

  33. Gorgeous! I would hide my golden apple in the secret dark, away from the greedy eyes of dragons and fire sprites for ninety years. Then, when I was a wrinkledy old lady I would bring it into the light, take a bite and grow young again and dance and sing with joy.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gosh, I dunno -- I guess I'd eat it. YUM!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh! I was just looking about on how to get my very own golden apple from you, and now I have found your blog, giving away a golden apple! (in illustrative form)

With a golden apple, I would give it to my friend, Marianne, as she has a song about golden apples (in her folk band- HotFeet)
And I would very much love to give her this as a late Christmas/New Year present. I'm sure she would draw inspiration for a new golden apple song.

The Firebird series is amazing, and just so lovely to look at.

  36. Oh, the Golden Apple has already been eaten! Well, the above still stands!
