Grimms Fairy Tales by Taschen

I got myself a magic purple book. It's the new Grimm's Fairy Tales by Taschen and includes lots of amazing art from previous illustrated versions of each of the tales.

  1. Could you tell me who is the author of the first illustration in the book - the one with the sleeping beauty? I'd be forever grateful.
I think it's the same one as for the candy house illustration you featured.

(I'm loving the blog, by the way :) .)

  2. Hi Ana!

the illustrations are colour lithographs by Hebert Leupin and were done in 1948 ( I actually thought when I saw them first they must be modern...they look so fresh!)

  3. Oh, sorry, I meant the other one; this one.

But indeed, the one that you mention is very modern - had you not told me it was from 1948 I would have thought it was one of the 'new talents' their site mentions. Just... Wow :o !

  6. The sleeping Beauty illustration is by Kay Nielson from 1925

  7. Another 'wow' is in order since I thought these were only done in style of Kay Nielsen, but by a modern illustrator - the colours are so vivid!

    Thank you again :) .
